Linking
Linking for websites has two important functions.
The first is that it increases traffic. The second is that linking and traffic increases persuade the Search Engines that a website has Authority and should have better page ranking.
What is linking?
There is external linking and internal linking.
An external link is a visit to a website from a referral site. That referral site can be broken down in classifications. It could be a sponsor site that feels it wants to refer Visitors as a service. It could be a site that has exchanged links with the subject site as a mutual benefit.
An external link can come from blogs, articles, P/R, Social Media sites such as Twitter, Pay Per Click, direct mail, television advertising, newspaper advertising and more. Every click received is a potential customer and also registers traffic noticeable by Search Engines.
An internal link is a referral to some other page in the website. It means more education or assistance for the visitor and it tells Search Engines that your site is deeper.
