Individuals and the Organizations in which they work strive to achieve their Goals.
In many instances, the Goals of the two may not be the same.
We can look at exemplary achievements of well known companies such as Starbucks, Microsoft, Google, and Apple and understand not only do they have unique products, they have cultures that support innovation and perpetuate market leadership.
Peak Performance and Flow is more than uniting the sum of the parts. It is creating a synchronicity where results exceed expectations.
Many teams in the NFL make the playoffs. The team that wins the Super Bowl has combined not only the talent of its roster, but a special spirit of trust, belief, and determination in its organization that makes it feel most entitled to the Grand Prize.
How do Organizations merge the aspirations of its people with its own Mission? How do Organizations develop and inspire its people to work together in this endeavor? How are values created, merged and endorsed by everyone to create achievement that meets the highest expectations?
I participated in the residential real estate market in the 1970’s-1990’s. After becoming one of the top sales people in the very competitive Westside neighborhoods of Brentwood and Beverly Hills of Los Angeles, I became the Brentwood Office Manager.
My goal was to create the highest volume office in the city starting with 19 sales agents. By the time we reached 70 agents we had achieved becoming the number one office in the city with over $100 million in production, which at that time was considerable.
My agents’ personal goals were not exactly the same as mine, but understanding their needs and desires and helping them reach their goals was the secret to reaching mine and those of my employer. The effort was to create an environment where everyone could express themselves and be recognized in a culture that valued individuals.
Times have changed, but not the need of individuals to feel cherished. What has changed is the demands on Brands to treat people and customers well, contribute to Community, and support planet sustainability.
There are three important questions:
- What are the values that inspire individuals to achieve?
- What are the values of an Organization that inspire its people to align with its Mission?
- What are the values of an Organization and its People that cause the Community to endorse its Brand?
It has never been more important to create teams with the same values.
